Provence has very tight connections with Polish literature. Witold Gombrowicz, one of the Masters, lived there in Vence in nineteen-sixties. Not only him, this part of France was very popular and was considered to be very inspirational place to live. Not to mention pleasant climate and beautiful surroundings.

But I imagine that it required from the artist to already be famous and wealthy to be able to move there.
